Press Release

The Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Eldercare Alliance will hold its second community forum “How Do I Finance Eldercare?” on Thursday, June 19, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., at Gray, Gray & Gray, LLP,  34 Southwest Park in Westwood.

The Eldercare Alliance’s goal is to educate and inform both the Chamber’s membership and community at large on issues and options, both elders and caregivers are faced with.

The first forum “Caregiving and Employment:  Can You Do Both?” was so well received that the forums have been moved from the Chamber’s office to the much larger venue at Gray Gray & Gray.

Rob Ferrini, CLTC, of Genworth Financial explains “It is a common misconception that long term care is covered by health insurance.  In fact, most health insurance plans do not cover long term care costs.  Generally, neither does Medicare, except under very specific circumstances and following a qualifying hospital stay.  And Medicaid, the Federal program for the needy, won’t help until one has exhausted almost all their assets.

Wesley Rickard, CPA, of Quin, Rickard, Lipshires & Grupp, LLC, who attended the first Eldercare alliance forum, said: “Planning to protect your assets for long term care now involves a longer time frame before entering a nursing home and more restrictive prohibitions for gifting to family members.”

Mary Raczka of HESSCO Elder Services, Co-Chair of the Alliance, added: “We are so excited that there has been such a great response to the Eldercare Alliance.  At our first Alliance meeting we had no idea what the response would be from the Chamber’s membership and the community at large.  The response has been incredible.”

To register for the forum, call the Chamber at (781) 769-1126, www.NVCC.com.  All forums are free and open to the public.

Future forums:  September 18th, Where Do I Begin?  This forum will help participants sort through and evaluate the many options.  On December 18th the forum will be Dealing With Care and Housing Options.

If you are unable to attend and would like some information on elder related issues and services, please call HESSCO Elder Services – 781-784-4944.
