“Into Africa: Life of a Primatologist” Friday, June 6th, 7PM
Ian Gilby is a post doctoral fellow in the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University who studies the behavior of wild chimpanzees. He has made several extended trips to Tanzania and Uganda to observe chimpanzees and monitor long term data collection. Using photographs, video and stories from the field, Dr. Gilby will present the extremes of life as a field biologist, from bureaucracy and malaria to chimpanzees and elephants. For ages 10 and up. The Second Annual Autumn Fest which was held October 30, 2005, was a great success. Thank you to all who joined in to make this a memorable day.
FOCSA participated in the McGinty Family Fun Day, a fundraiser for a scholarship in memory of Michael McGinty, a Foxboro resident who died September 11th. The event was held at Cocasset River Park on September 11th, 2005. FOCSA had a booth where pinecone bird feeders were made by children and also organized a hike through the woods from Cocasset River Park over to the Former Camp St. Augustine on Mill St. Participants enjoyed an activity along the way to get to know each other and refreshments at the newly restored Chapel Meeting House.
Pasta Night Saturday, May 14th 2005, Taylor School, FOCSA event to raise money for Rec Hall and Chapel Meeting House at Cocasset River Recreation Areas.
The First Annual Autumn Fest which was held October 31, 2004, was a great success with 400 attending, funds raised for the Rec. Hall and Chapel and nearly fifty new family memberships! Thank you to all who joined in to make this a memorable day.
In June of 2004, a Camp Cleanup was held. Friends of Camp St. Augustine organized this effort with the Recreation Department. Nearly eighty people came to weed, prune and rake. It was fun day with all ages participating to enhance the Camp. And the ground truly looked beautiful at the end of the day. FOCSA hopes to work with the Recreation Department to make this an annual event.
Several Eagle Scout Projects are in process on the property including a new bridge on the trail that connects Camp St. Augustine with Cocasset River Park, an amphitheater in the woods and the all critical project of grooming, mapping and naming the trails. Work is also being done to provide swimmers with a place to store belongings in the Recreation Hall. A special thank you to the Boy Scouts for taking on these projects.
